This is the complete reference for NoCapture keyboard shortcuts. All shortcuts are global, meaning they work even when NoCapture is not the active window.
Default Shortcuts
Toggle protection on active window: Ctrl + Alt + N
Trigger default routine: Ctrl + Alt + R
Open live preview: Ctrl + Alt + P
Toggle pin on top for active window: Ctrl + Alt + T
Toggle ghost mode for active window: Ctrl + Alt + G
Emergency cloak all: Ctrl + Alt + E
Show or hide NoCapture main window: Ctrl + Alt + H
How to Customize
- Open NoCapture settings
- Navigate to Hotkeys
- Click the shortcut you want to change
- Press your desired key combination
- NoCapture validates that the combination is not already in use by Windows or another application
- Save
Conflict Resolution
If your desired shortcut is already used by another application, NoCapture will warn you. Common conflicts:
- Ctrl + Alt + T is used by some IDEs for terminal toggles
- Ctrl + Alt + N is used by some note-taking apps
- Ctrl + Alt + P is used by some screenshot tools
If you use these applications, reassign the conflicting NoCapture shortcut. We recommend using combinations that include the Windows key for NoCapture, since fewer applications register Win + Alt combinations.
Building Muscle Memory
The most important shortcut to internalize is the emergency cloak. Choose a combination that your fingers can hit without looking. Practice it three times when you first configure NoCapture. In a panic moment — a notification arriving, a sensitive window appearing — the shortcut should be reflex.
We recommend assigning the emergency cloak to a single-hand combination like Ctrl + Shift + ` so you can trigger it while your other hand is on the mouse.
Teams Policy Overrides
In NoCapture Teams, administrators can lock certain shortcuts to organization defaults. Users can add personal shortcuts for features not covered by policy, but cannot override mandated combinations. This ensures that emergency procedures are consistent across the team.
The Limitation
Global hotkeys do not work during UAC prompts, secure desktop sessions, or when a fullscreen game has exclusive input focus. These are Windows security restrictions, not NoCapture bugs. If you need protection during UAC, enable it before the prompt appears.
