AI Agents Will Move Beyond Screenshots
Current AI agents capture screenshots and OCR them. This is crude but effective. In 2027, agents will combine screenshot analysis with:
- DWM enumeration APIs that read window titles and metadata without capturing pixels
- Accessibility APIs designed for screen readers that expose application structure
- Memory inspection techniques that extract text directly from application buffers
- Audio transcription of system sounds and notification tones
Screenshot cloaking will remain necessary but insufficient. Metadata protection — title masking, process anonymization, and notification suppression — will become the primary battleground.

Operating Systems Will Respond

WDA_EXCLUDEFROMCAPTURE. Apple has the internal capability. Market pressure from tools like Stealthly and ScreenVeil may force them to expose it. - Linux: Wayland compositors are already experimenting with per-window capture exclusion protocols. By 2027, a standard may emerge.
NoCapture will adopt these APIs as they ship. We will not wait for perfection, but we will not ship half-measures either.
Browser Vendors Will Enter the Game
Chrome, Edge, and Safari already block screen capture of DRM video. In 2027, we expect them to offer similar protection for arbitrary web content. This would create a two-tier system where browser-based apps are easier to protect than native apps.
NoCapture's strategy is to support both tiers. We already cloak browser windows at the OS level. If browsers add native per-tab exclusion, we will integrate with those APIs as well.
Enterprise Policy Will Tighten
